The July Members' Evening saw teams tackle an Egg and matching Eggcup. Most turned out reasonably egg-shaped, and the winners were Harvey's Team. The July evening also featured 'something from a Banksia Nut' as the monthly competition. An impressive list of entries included a Faberge Egg, decorative boxes, pomanders, and a very realistic Armadillo form by Jim Coombs (winner). Jim said he was inspired by the somewhat quirky and bulbous naure of his particular Banksia Nut, which apperaed to have a natural 'body' and 'neck' part (see home page). KVWT Diary dates and contact detials are now featured on the Woodturner magazine. Given the recent number of new members, the Saturday workshop on 23 August will be a Beginners' Workshop, covering basic turning skills as well as tool sharpening. The Club will be exhibiting once again at the Aldermarston and Wasing show on Sat 6 September. Always a popular event, Members are welcome to display and sell their work to the Public (usual commission applies). Following the recent upgrade to our video equipment (thanks to the Greenham Common Trust) the Club has two 'old' cameras to give away to good causes. The Sanyo is a typical hand-held camcorder, recording onto mini tapes. It has a mains power supply (but may need a battery to be portable). The Sony is a professional camera with a good lens, but has a problem with the brightness of its image. This camera derives its power from a mains powered VHS recorder (also included). If you know of a charity group, scout project, drama group, or similar, that could benefit from this equipment, please contact anyone on the Committee for more information. Phil Boulter has now completed updating the members list - but found that many member's original forms appear to be missing. To recify this (and to re-affirm the Club's position re liability insurance), ALL members will be re-issued with a Membership Form for signature. |
